Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has confirmed that striker Kwame Opoku is delighted to return to the club after his stints with Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga and Algerian side USM Alger.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Kotoko’s highly anticipated clash against Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, December 15, at the Baba Yara Stadium (15:00 GMT), Dr. Ogum expressed confidence in Opoku’s abilities and professionalism.
“He’s a fine striker, a fine player. I like his level of professionalism, and he’s happy to be back at the club to contribute his quota. We know he has the eye for goal, and that’s why we’ve brought him on board,” said Dr. Ogum.
Opoku previously made a significant impact during his first stint with Kotoko, scoring seven goals in 16 matches in the Ghana Premier League before moving abroad. In his time in the Ligue Professionnelle 1, he recorded five goals and six assists in 33 games. He has now signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to rejoin the Porcupine Warriors.
Dr. Ogum emphasized the club’s commitment to supporting Opoku as he reintegrates into the team, adding, “We only have to support him, let him believe that he is a good-quality player—that’s why we’ve brought him on board. As a coach, I’m happy he’s back at the club.”
The striker’s return comes at a crucial time for Asante Kotoko as they prepare for one of the most anticipated fixtures of the season—the “Super Clash” against their fierce rivals Hearts of Oak. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see how Opoku’s firepower will influence the game.
