President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has officially been cleared to contest for a position on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee.
Okraku made the announcement via his Facebook page, revealing that he had successfully passed CAF’s mandatory integrity test.
“Thrilled to share that I have been cleared to contest for a place on the Executive Committee of CAF, after successfully passing the integrity test. Excited for what lies ahead. May God guide us through this journey!” he wrote.
Okraku is running unopposed on the ticket of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) and is expected to be confirmed as a CAF Executive Committee member during the Elective Congress scheduled for March 12, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt.
His candidacy reflects his vision of strengthening African football governance and leveraging his leadership experience at the GFA to make an impact at the continental level.
The Elective Congress will be a pivotal moment for African football, not only confirming Okraku’s position but also featuring other high-stakes elections. These include the re-election of incumbent CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who is running unopposed for a second term, and the election of FIFA Council representatives for the 2025–2029 cycle.
High-profile candidates for the FIFA Council slots include Sierra Leone’s Isha Johansen, Egypt’s Hany Abou Rida, and Amaju Melvin Pinnick, backed by Tanzania’s Football Association.
As the football world turns its attention to Cairo in March, Okraku’s elevation to the CAF Executive Committee is set to be a significant milestone for Ghanaian football and a boost to WAFU B’s influence in African football governance.
