Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Provost of the College of Education Studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has been named the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The announcement was made via a Facebook post by the GES on Monday, January 27, 2025. Professor Davis is widely regarded for his extensive academic and professional expertise, which he brings to this pivotal role.
With a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Australia, Professor Davis has a distinguished academic background. He is also a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, an honor that recognizes his significant contributions to education and research in Africa.
In addition, Professor Davis is a committed member of the Ghana Mathematics Association, where he has actively worked to promote excellence in mathematics education throughout the country.
His leadership experience includes serving as Vice President of the Ghana Education Research Association (GERA-Ghana), a professional body dedicated to improving educational policies and practices through research and evidence-based solutions.
As Director-General, Professor Davis is expected to build on the achievements of his predecessor while implementing his vision to further enhance the quality of education in Ghana.
Outgoing Director-General Dr. Eric Nkansah expressed his gratitude to former President Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to lead the GES. In a Facebook post, Dr. Nkansah said, “Though I leave my position today, my commitment to education remains unwavering. I look forward to contributing to Ghana’s educational advancement in other capacities.” He also wished Professor Davis success, urging all stakeholders to support the new Director-General in his role.
