Fidelity Bank, Ghana’s largest privately owned indigenous bank, recently held a prestigious dinner and awards ceremony to honor the exceptional contributions of its Agency Banking network. The event, hosted at Wesley Towers in Accra, marked the grand finale of regional celebrations held earlier in Tamale, Kumasi, and Takoradi, showcasing the pivotal role agents play in driving financial inclusion across Ghana.

The ceremony highlighted the achievements of Fidelity Bank’s groundbreaking Agency Banking model, which began in 2014 with just 24 agents. Today, the network has grown exponentially to include over 9,000 agents, extending banking services to every corner of the country. This rapid growth reaffirms Fidelity Bank’s position as the market leader in Agency Banking, bringing essential financial services to the unbanked and underbanked populations.

In October 2024 alone, the agency network recorded deposits exceeding GH¢2 billion, while transaction volumes reached an impressive GH¢20 billion since the start of the year, with over 2 million transactions completed within the same period.

Transforming Financial Access

In his opening remarks, Kwabena Boateng, Deputy Managing Director for Wholesale Banking, lauded the agents’ dedication and transformative impact on financial inclusion:
“In the past, millions of Ghanaians were excluded from financial services. Today, thanks to the remarkable dedication of our agents, we have brought banking into homes, workplaces, and communities.”

Mr. Boateng praised the agents for bridging financial gaps in underserved areas, enabling Ghanaians to access vital banking services with greater ease.

Godfred Attafuah, Director of Channels and Sales, underscored the program’s positive impact on employment and income generation:
“Our agents are not only delivering banking services but also creating jobs and generating incomes. Fidelity Bank remains committed to prioritizing their needs and building stronger collaborations for future success.”

Recognizing Excellence

The evening’s highlight was the presentation of awards to top-performing agents who have excelled in driving Agency Banking’s success. Categories included Best Attendant, Best Territory Agent, Outstanding Long-Service Agent, and the coveted National Award.

  • Brillin Top Enterprise from Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, emerged as the Overall Best Agent for 2024, successfully defending their title from the previous year.
  • S-Duah Enterprise from Kumasi, a three-time winner (2019–2022), secured second place.
  • Khofhay Ventures from Berekum claimed the third-place spot in this fiercely competitive category.

These agents continue to serve as pillars in Ghana’s financial ecosystem, enabling individuals in remote and underserved communities to access the tools they need to thrive.

Looking ahead, Fidelity Bank remains dedicated to innovation, sustainability, and fostering partnerships that will further expand financial inclusion across Ghana.
