The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has fulfilled its pledge to release all withheld results from the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by February 28. This decision comes after a prolonged legal battle and mounting pressure from the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), which had threatened nationwide protests over the delay.

WAEC had initially withheld over 10,000 results due to suspected examination malpractices. However, following a court order and widespread calls for transparency, the Council has now made all results available to candidates.

In an interview with Citi NewsJohn Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, confirmed the release of the results, stating that there are no longer any outstanding issues.

“As we promised, we kept to our word. By the close of February 28, we had uploaded all the results of the candidates whose results had been withheld,” Kapi said. “The court had ordered that we release the results of those candidates, and we have complied. There are no outstanding results as far as the 2024 WASSCE is concerned.”

Kapi also addressed concerns about potential complaints from candidates, noting that the results reflect the true performance of the students.

“February 28 was a Friday, so we assume that people may wait until the beginning of the week to contact the office with any complaints. However, we believe that the results we have released are an accurate reflection of the candidates’ performance in the examination,” he added.

The release of the withheld results marks the end of a contentious chapter for WAEC and the affected students. The legal dispute and subsequent resolution highlight the importance of transparency and accountability in the examination process.

With all results now available, candidates can access their scores and proceed with their academic and career plans. The development has been welcomed by students, parents, and educational stakeholders, who had expressed frustration over the prolonged delay.

WAEC has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations while ensuring fairness and timely release of results
