Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister-nominee for Lands and Natural Resources, has issued a stern warning against illegal mining, promising decisive action against lawbreakers regardless of their political affiliations.
Speaking during his vetting on Monday, January 27, 2025, Mr. Buah stressed the government’s unwavering commitment to combating illegal mining activities and prioritizing responsible resource management.
“We will provide a clear pathway for those who want to mine legally with government support, but we will ruthlessly deal with anybody who decides to operate outside the law. Illegal mining will not be tolerated. It doesn’t matter your political party,” he declared.
The nominee assured Ghanaians that the new administration, under President John Dramani Mahama, is resolute in protecting the country’s natural resources and environment. “I’m not here to talk about political platforms. I’m here to talk about solving serious problems that confront the people of Ghana,” he stated.
Mr. Buah outlined several initiatives aimed at addressing challenges in the mining sector, including a ban on new mining activities in forest reserves, the protection of water bodies, and efforts to reclaim degraded lands.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering legal mining activities by providing clear regulations and support for individuals willing to operate within the framework of the law.
