President John Mahama Nominates Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister Designate

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the Finance Minister designate, further strengthening his administration’s commitment to sound economic management and fiscal discipline.

The announcement was made through a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson for the President. Dr. Forson, an esteemed economist, Chartered Accountant, and Tax Practitioner, brings over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors to the crucial role.

Dr. Forson has a distinguished academic background, with a Master of Science degree in Taxation from the University of Oxford, UK, a Ph.D. in Finance, and a Master of Science in Economics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana, and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG).

A lawmaker in the Parliament of Ghana, Dr. Forson has represented the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency since 2009. He was appointed Minority Leader in January 2023, and previously served as the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee for six years. Additionally, he held the position of Deputy Minister for Finance from 2013 to 2017, overseeing Budget Preparation, Tax Policy and Administration, Treasury and Debt Management, and External Resource Mobilisation.

Dr. Forson played a key role in negotiating the Ghana-IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Programme in 2015 and was instrumental in introducing Ghana’s model Public Financial Management Act of 2016. His expertise and leadership in fiscal policy have earned him national recognition.

In addition to Dr. Forson’s nomination, President Mahama has named John Abdulai Jinapor as the Minister designate for Energy. Both appointments reflect the President’s commitment to ensuring capable leadership in critical sectors.
